The New York Times – Thanksgiving Turkeys

Alexander Coggin

This Thanksgiving, siblings Alexander and Samantha Coggin traveled home from Europe to Philadelphia with a very important task: to document Thanksgiving in their hometown, what they are calling “the 2017 Jenkintown Turkey Census.” Beginning at 2PM, they hopped from house to house, @AlexanderCoggin snapping photos of the turkeys while his sister, writer @Sam_Coggin, conducted interviews and took stats. “Jenkintown is a small borough of Philly, less than one-square mile in size. We visited about fifteen houses this year, starting at the Sullivan’s and ending at the Turowski’s,” Samantha says. The census revealed a variety of techniques from classic roasts to deep-fried to something called “butter blasting.”
