Marcus photographed 115 portraits of women running the Chicago Marathon in three days across two cities. The women span all ages, ethnicities, and experience levels.

“As I met each of these women to photograph them, I heard their stories about why running a marathon was so important and one of the most common answers was because I never thought I could. Almost everyday I think about where I came from to get to where I am now, and never thinking you could is an idea I lived with for so long. To say I’m proud to be a part of a campaign that’s uplifting women in such a trying time is beyond an understatement. This one’s for my mom, my wife, my granny, and any of the other ladies out there fighting the fight day in and day out.” – Marcus Smith
