We shot the Tracksmith Winter Collection on a snowstorm weekend in Boulder, Colorado. Originally we didn’t need snow for the shoot but over the years have embraced the brutal conditions of the winter running grind and the weather was a beautiful gift. We returned to one of my favorite spots outside of Boulder, a few years ago I made a real time ambient film of a runner running that road for 90 minutes, so I know it well. Our process is always rooted in the completion of a run in its entirety and the dedication to that process shows in the end result. The physicality and effort feel earned. You can see it in the way cold air and sweat cling to their faces, the evidence of their work written in their bodies. I wanted to create a strong set of color images, which can be challenging in winter’s muted palette. But the sets and the winter light cut through the scenes and highlight strong pops of color that are both moody, sharp, graphic and vibrant but still very wintery.
